Shrimant Rajashri Shahu Shivaji III Chhatrapati Maharaj, Raja of Kolhapur. b. at Khanwat, 16th March 1756, as Shrimant Mankajirao Bhonsle [Baba Sahib], son of Shrimant Sardar Shahajirao Bhonsle (Khanwatkar), by his wife, the sister of Shrimant Nowlojirao Mahadik. Adopted by H.H. Maharani Jijibai Sahib, widow of Rajashri Sambhaji II, 22nd September 1762 when he took the name of Shahu Shivaji II and ascended the gadi, 27th September 1762. Reigned under the Regency of his adopted mothers until he came of age and assumed full ruling powers, 18th July 1779. Entered into treaty relations with the HEIC in 1812.
